TO ALL MY LITERATE GRADE 9 STUDENTS...
Before anything else, let me wish you and your families an ADVANCE MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR 2010...!
Now...down to business...! I have a number of HOLIDAY HOMEWORK/ASSIGNMENTS for you to work on given the 16 days you are going to "miss" seeing me and/or “miss” being in my class.
FIRST…you have the entire break to re-read and understand the story THE BIRDS by Daphne du Maurier, in case you have not done so yet. On an A4/F12/DS/TNR, do the Creative Writing part (Who’s In Charge?) on page 78 of your text…!
SECOND…you should start picking out which scene from ROMEO & JULIET you intend to take and perform. You can only use the following scenes from the following Acts…which means, if it is not listed here, you cannot use it! ACT ONE: Scenes 1-2-3-4-5/ ACT TWO: Scenes 2 & 4/ ACT THREE: Scenes 1-2-3-5/ ACT FOUR: Scenes 1 & 5/ ACT FIVE: Scene 5. REMEMBER that the number of members in your group should correspond with the number of characters in the scene you chose. Choice of scenes will be on a first-come first-serve basis---post your group’s choice scene here immediately and the names of your members. Start memorizing, planning, and working on your scenes as soon as I give you the approval. I am going to ask for an update from every group on what you have already accomplished by the time we get back to school in January. Make sure to take note of the workers and the slackers in your group for peer rating purposes…!
THIRD…We will begin discussing your next class novel immediately after discussion of The Birds. Then we go to Poison, then Of Mice And Men sometime before the Chinese New Year Break. Make sure to start reading and understanding these stories little by little so that you will not have to do it all last minute again…!
FOURTH…on an A4/F12/DS/TNR, write me an essay on how your Christmas Break was…try to be as honest as possible in relating the events that transpired during your holidays…if it was boring, then write about it…if it was fun, then tell me what made it fun. This one you will not be able to do until after the New Year, so I suppose you’ll have to leave it for last…!
FIFTH…you will be presenting your LOTF Society Project on Monday (Green Day Group) and Tuesday (Blue Day Group)---I HOPE YOU ARE ALL READY FOR IT…!
LASTLY…you will be having your Literary Terms Test as soon as we get back from the holidays…numbers 51-100 of the list…STUDY…!
That’s All Folks! Have a Safe and Wonderful Christmas Holidays and come back refreshed and ready to Rock-N-Roll for the Second Semester. Be good and get all your homework/assignments out of the way as soon as possible so that you can enjoy your break to the max…CIAO!!!
